Keeping Window Fashions Child-Safe
Window fashions are beneficial on numerous levels, but if they have outdated dangling cords, they can be hazardous to small children and pets. Dangerous Cords
October is National Window Covering Safety Month, as determined by the Window Covering Safety Council, which is dedicated to ensuring the safety of all window treatments throughout the country. Did you know that, according to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, corded window coverings are one of the top five hidden hazards in children’s homes? Infants and toddlers are very curious and handsy, and if they can reach dangling cords, they can get into some dangerous situations.
Child-Safe Operating Systems
All new Hunter Douglas window fashions are available with a selection of child- and pet-safe lift systems, including, among others:
- SimpleLift™, which lets you raise and lower the treatment with the simple touch of a button on the bottom rail.
- SoftTouch® motorization, which is a battery-powered system that responds to you pulling down on or pushing up on a wand.
- PowerView® Automation, a fully programmable motorized system that lets you adjust your window treatments based on programming or at any time, even if you’re not at home.
Other Safety Options
If you’re not able to buy new treatments right now but you still have some of the outdated dangling cords, don’t worry. You can still take other precautions to keep your children and pets safe. Simply shorten any dangling cords or tuck them up and out of reach. Move cribs and beds away from corded treatments (on the other side of the room if you can).
