If you’ve dreamed of having a media room in your home—to invite friends and family to gather for the big game or a great movie—it might be easier to achieve than you might think. Almost any room in your home could be turned into a theater room, and here at Altra Home Décor in Phoenix, we’ll be happy to help you find the right window treatments to make that room perfect for entertaining.

How to Cover Media Room Windows

Even though today’s home theater rooms can be much smaller than the rooms needed to accommodate large projection TVs, it’s still important that the room has great light control to minimize glare and create that movie theater feel. If you’re using your family room for entertainment, your big windows might let in too much light. This is when window treatments take center stage.

Various Options

Hunter Douglas Window Fashions, the premier window covering company, has window treatments to complement any style while providing the light control you need. There are many opacities to choose from.

  • Semi-sheer blinds or shades are light-filtering and provide a light and airy ambiance. If you want total darkness, consider adding drapes. Some choices include Duette® honeycomb shades, Silhouette® Privacy Sheers, and Luminette® Privacy Sheers.
  • Semi-opaque blinds or shades are room-darkening and filter light while providing a softer appearance with a “halo” of light. Some choices include Duette® Honeycomb opaque shades, Skyline® Gliding Panels, Pirouette® Window Shadings, Luminette® Privacy Sheers and Modern Draperies, and wood blinds with traditional routing.
  • Blackout blinds, shades, and shutters block 100% of the light. Choices include horizontal and vertical blinds and shades, Duette® Honeycomb blackout shades, room-darkening shades with liners, and more.

External Mount

It’s best to have no light gap around the window, so, to cover the entire window and keep light from coming in, you should consider mounting your blinds or shades on the outside of the window frame. However, if you like the look of an inside mount or don’t want to cover up your molding, then you might want to consider adding drapery panels.

Finally, you’ve set up your TV and surround sound, you’ve got your furniture in place and your window treatments hung, and your movie is about to start. All you need now is the popcorn!
