When you want a dark room, you want a dark room, right? That includes any light that sneaks in from the sides of a window treatment, which can impact a room’s usefulness, especially if it’s a bedroom or a media room. At Altra Home Décor serving the greater Phoenix area, we understand the importance of blocking as much light as possible, so we’ve put together a few ideas about how to do it in your home. Check them out below!

Block the Side Gap

Hunter Douglas, the leader in window fashions innovation, has created the perfect solution for dealing with the light gap on the sides of Duette® Honeycomb Shades. If you’re getting new Duette Honeycomb Shades and treatments, consider adding the LightLock® innovation, U-shaped side channels that fit on the window frame and absorb or reflect almost all of the light that would otherwise escape the gap. Then sit back and enjoy your very dark room.

Outside Mount Window Shades

Many window treatments are mounted inside the window frame, which can look streamlined and present an aesthetic appeal. However, inside mount requires that the treatment be cut so that it won’t touch the sides; otherwise, the treatment would rub against the frame, causing wear and damage. However, with outside mount (on, outside of, or above the window frame), you can cover the expanse of the window entirely. Outside mount will make your room seem taller; plus, when you raise the treatment, you’ll have a completely unobstructed view.

Layer Window Treatments With Side Panels

Natural light can be both a blessing and a bane, so those light gaps can be frustrating. One easy and room-enhancing solution is to layer side panels to your window. This new element will add depth and dimension to the room, and you’ll create a one-of-a-kind look while matching the style of the room through your choice of fabric design and color.
