Read more: Asian Zen Style With ShadesSimplicity Is Key
Almost minimalistic, Asian Zen style is all about simplicity and harmony combined with a deep connection to nature. With Asian Zen, you’ll see sleek lines, interesting shapes (circles more than squares), and a relaxing atmosphere. Much of the color palette is neutral to maintain the serene and calm vibes, and tranquility is an important byproduct of the style.
A Sense of Peace
Choose neutral and natural colors with soft tones, including whites, gray, and beige, to create your zone of serenity. You can add bolder accent colors in pops, but stick to natural hues like green, yellow, orange, and blue.
Connection to Nature
Bring in actual nature, like plants, to add color and an outdoor aesthetic. Live plants will help provide oxygen—be sure to avoid anything that’s high maintenance. Good choices include bonsai trees, snake grass, and bamboo. You can also bring the outside in with rocks, sand, and gravel. Consider adding a water feature made from pleasantly arranged stones, to provide relaxing sound and freedom from worries.
Highlight Light
Natural light is very important to Asian Zen decorating. Large windows and open floor plans are ideal because they celebrate sunlight, but not every home can accommodate that. To best control the light you have, consider floor lamps, table lamps, Japanese lanterns, and candles so that you have small areas of lights with intensities you can control and ambiances you can adjust. For the windows you do have, be sure to spotlight incoming natural light. Great choices from Hunter Douglas include:
- Luminette® Privacy Sheers. This versatile product offers a way to celebrate natural sunlight while still maintaining the privacy level you want for your space. Vertical vanes that allow for 180 degrees of movement are attached to sheer fabric that creates a softly filtered light, resulting in a beautiful haven of relaxation. These beauties are great on vertically oriented openings such as walls of glass or sliders.
- Pirouette® Window Shadings. With clean lines, beautiful contours, and fluid movement, these shades are a wonderful alternative to traditional fabric shades. They give you great control over softly diffused light, and they offer the privacy levels you want. You can choose from a wide selection of fabrics in semi-opaque and room-darkening opacities, so these treatments work well in almost any space.
- Silhouette® Window Shadings. Luxurious yet simple, Silhouette shadings filter light while providing great privacy. They feature S-shaped vanes that appear to float in elegant style while the sheer external fabrics preserve your view-through for the best of all worlds. You’ll feel protected from prying eyes while still enjoying natural lighting and your view.
