Accent Colors For Home Designs

Painting a room is more than the color you put on the walls—it’s also about the colors you add to the accents, which can help add depth and nuance to your overall look. At Altra Home Décor serving the greater Phoenix area, we have some tips for adding accent colors to a space to make the overall presentation pull together and pop. Read on for more!

Coordinating Color

Selecting color can feel overwhelming—but a lot of it truly comes down to personal preference. After all, you’re the one living in the space, so you should choose colors you’ll enjoy seeing every day. To help you find coordinating colors that will work throughout your home, consider using a color wheel, which can show you the relationships between colors. For complementary colors, select colors directly across from one another. For analogous colors, select colors that are next to each other. Also think about the energy of the room: should it be bold and bright or mellower, with colors that create a sense of repose?

Baseboards Can Tie It Together

One of the best accent areas to focus on are your baseboards, which, if treated correctly, can add depth to the overall look of the room. For example, you can use stain on them, which brings in that look of genuine wood, making your room feel rich, warm, and traditional. Or use dark colors on the baseboards to create a contemporary look (this is especially good in small spaces because it adds depth). Or if you have dark walls, consider using cream, ivory, or off-white for the baseboards to offset the dark (be sure to speak with a professional to ensure you get the right shade). If you use semigloss paint, you’ll find a nice contrast that helps reflect the light in the room—and it’s easier to clean.

Adding Color Through Décor

If you’ve made your room color soft or neutral, you can add small (or even large) pops of color and texture to bring dimension and visual interest. Your artwork, décor, throw pillows, blankets, and area rugs can all be part of your overall color scheme, bringing the zing your room craves.

Window Treatments

And don’t forget the power of the right window treatment. If you have bright, bold colors on your walls, consider using a neutral window fashion to balance it out. Window fashions like Duette® Cellular Shades are offered in numerous neutral colors to enhance a room. Or, if your walls are neutral, think about window fashions with a hint of color or pattern to balance it all out.
