Pantone Color of the Year 2023 Viva Magenta

Did you know that there’s a Pantone “color of the year”? If you’re looking to add color to your home, you could go with the trend and use the 2023 color. At Altra Home Décor serving the greater Phoenix area, we’ll be happy to help you determine the best way to add just a splash or a lot. Speak with one of our consultants today.

History of Pantone Color of Year

For over two decades, Pantone has named a color of the year. In 1963, the company created the Pantone Matching System, a proprietary system used in a variety of industries—such as printing, graphic design, fashion design, and home décor—to manage colors. To arrive at the selection each year, Pantone’s color experts at the Pantone Color Institute comb the world looking for new color inspirations. This may include new artists, fashion, all areas of design, and popular travel destinations, as well as new lifestyles and socio-economic conditions. Influences may also stem from new materials, textures, technologies, and effects that impact color. “Color is an equalizing lens through which we experience our natural and digital realities,” noted Leatrice Eiseman, executive director of the Pantone Color Institute. With consumers so deeply enmeshed in an age of technology, “we look to draw inspiration from nature,” she added.

The 2023 Color

The Color of the Year offers strategic direction around the world. This year, the Pantone Color Institute decided on Viva Magenta, which “vibrates with vim and vigor.” It’s a “nuanced crimson tone” that balances warm and cool and is “an unconventional shade for an unconventional time.”  Viva Magenta, Eiseman says, is “rooted in the primordial” and “reconnects us to original matter…It galvanizes our spirit, helping us to build our inner strength.”

Using Viva Magenta in Your Interior Home Decor

Hunter Douglas Designer Roller Shades

You’ll be seeing Viva Magenta all around in the very near future. It won’t be hard to find small or large items of all kinds that you can add to your home’s décor or in other everyday uses. In fact, Pantone has already put together numerous collaborations using the color: Motorola phones, Spoonflower designs, CARIUMA shoes, Deepa Gurnani jewelry, and more. Or use custom drapery or side panels to bring the color to your room. Check out the Hunter Douglas Design Studio™, which offers a variety of fabrics in numerous colors and textures. You might prefer to bring Viva Magenta into your home in smaller amounts, through décor and artwork. If that’s the case, a lovely neutral window treatment would be a good foundation—consider the popular Duette® Cellular Shade in a neutral tone or our Designer Roller Shades in a purple option. No matter your goal, you’ll surely be able to find it today!
