It should be a place that provides you a peaceful retreat, but sometimes, that is not always the case because of the wrong window treatments. What Is Your Light Preference?

Although 73% of all Americans prefer a totally dark room to get a good night’s sleep, that may not be to your liking. Ask yourself how much light you like to have come through your windows in the morning. Maybe a semi-opaque fabric that allows muted light to enter the room is more your style. Regardless of your choice, Hunter Douglas window fashions has the perfect blinds, shades, or shutters to meet your needs.

Window Treatment Fabrics and Options

Parkland® Wood Blinds with de-light™ Feature.

Every Hunter Douglas window covering provides some measure of light control, depending on the fabric and color you select, light gaps, seams, and rout holes. Keep in mind that window shades and blinds cannot completely eliminate incoming light as there are inherently slight light gaps. Understanding the terminology will save you time and money.

Window Treatments That Block the Light

If total darkness is what you want, then you need to select a window covering that has “true” blackout materials in the collection. Blackout window treatments are also excellent for a baby’s room. You may want to consider mounting your blinds or shades on the outside of your window frame to minimize the light gap. For wood and aluminum blinds, ask for the de-Light™ feature, which eliminates the rout holes. In addition, check out the following:

  • Duette® Honeycomb Shades-both horizontal and vertical applications
  • Wood blinds with de-Light™
  • Modern Precious Metals® Aluminum Blinds with de-Light™
  • Roller shades
  • Shutters

Room-Darkening Window Treatments

Semi-opaque and opaque materials almost completely block out the light. We say “almost” because, if you select these fabrics, they do a good job darkening a room, but do not entirely eliminate light. Window coverings that offer room-darkening materials include:

  • Silhouette® Window Shadings
  • Pirouette® Window Shadings
  • Duette® Honeycomb Shades

Window Treatments With Liners

Another option for room-darkening capabilities is to add a liner that is available on many of our shades, including the following:

  • Provenance® Woven Woods
  • Silhouette® Window Fashions
  • Designer Roller Shades

Motorized Blinds and Shades

Don’t forget to add PowerView® motorization to your window treatments. With the PowerView app, you can schedule your blinds or shades to operate with the sunrise or sunset based on your location. To see
